Random photo for a galleries?

Loving the new design. One quick question though:

In the old Smugmug, galleries would pick a random photo as their cover image. But in the new Smugmug, it's defaulting the first photo.

How do I make it random again?

Wow! With hundreds of galleries you mean to tell me the cover images that I hand picked for each will no longer be the featured photo?

All my featured photos migrated over with no issue.

I believe the migration picks a featured photo and you have to deselect it to get back the random feature. This is how I think you can get back to random:

-Select organize site from the organize drop down at the top of the page.
-Select the gallery you want to reset to random from the left side directory.
-Click the settings button at the top left.
-Should bring up the Gallery Settings Basic tab and about half way down is featured image.
-Click the x next to the image to reset the selection
    -Click save at the bottom.

Now to be honest when I tried this I thought it didn't work because the image still showed when I reopened the dialog box. But it appears to show either the current featured image, or the current random image. At least thats what I think it does.

    Hope this helps.

I can't seem to get random thumbnails either at the folder or gallery level, each time I try the WiscoFrank steps it seems to reset...

Would be open to more suggestions, definitely want random thumbnails!

i concur. had it before and found it a value add. would like random on all pages for all galleries (should just be a checkbox you can select per level in my opinion).

And random as an option in the slideshow please. Also need the ability to click on the slideshow and go to the galleries., etc.
We should not have to settle for less then the JFriend HTML5 Slideshow.

    Cheers,

This doesn't work for me -- it just ends up re-selecting the first image in the gallery.

So I wish I could say the method I proposed actually worked all the time. Seems like it only works occasionally and not for long. At least for me. I can't say for sure what's broken but I can point to a symptom of the problem.

There seems to be two locations for accessing the featured image .. one in the organize the site menu and the second from the gallery settings menu accessed from the customize drop-down when you are in the gallery as a logged in user.

The funny behavior is that the two menu's can have different featured image selections. Try setting the featured image in the Customize drop-down then checking the Organizer. At least for me this works and matches in both places. If I deselect a featured image in the Customize drop-down gallery settings menu and the go check the Organizer it still has the old image selected and refuses to allow me to deselect and image. Constantly resets to the old selection.

I have tried every combination of actions I can think without success. I know it did work .. at least once but there is obviously a bug here. Sorry for the failed solution.

Couldn't agree more. I wish one could keep the HTML5 home page and combine with the nicer gallery look.

I guess it was a lot of work to redesign smugmug but this is falling short in so many ways. Looks like a less elegant squarespace copy without Wordpress and less intuitive UI.
