Gallery Descriptions not showing up on new design

I just switched to new Smugmug. When I'm logged in, I can see gallery descriptions, but when I look at a gallery logged out I can't see the description. This seems to be happening regardless of gallery type and it's doing it in all my browsers.

For example, this gallery should have a description: http://jstanley.smugmug.com/Travel/Belize/ATM-2011

Just adding my voice to this. Gallery descriptions do not appear unless you are logged in. As others have said, these descriptions contain important info that MUST be able to be seen by visitors. I hope this is fixed very quickly.

Other than that, I am blown AWAY by the new design. I love it. I made my site look about 100x better than the old one with maybe 20 minutes of work. The new interface makes it almost TOO easy, lol.

I'm just a bit flabbergasted that this stuff all went live with this many crazy-basic bugs. Surely people who had access early to test this stuff had this kind of thing happening to them as well? Or didn't they have real BETA versions? I don't know.... it just doesn't make sense to me that so many people have had to post here with so many questions related to things that just aren't working right. Premature releases just drive everyone mad, so why do they do it? It looks like I'm going to be waiting for awhile for LOTS of dust to settle before even trying it. It's a bummer.

It does seem like it would have been obvious to anyone testing that the descriptions were missing, but whatever :) It should be a very simple thing to fix, it's probably one code error somewhere.

Yes, we need descriptions! Not only in the gallery itself when not logged in, but also in the hierarchy above with thumbnails where only titles now show. Or at least the option of displaying titles and descriptions there.

It does look like there is a .sm-gallery-description {display: none; } overriding on the notLoggedIn page...

If I did have that set before, where would I find it now?

Question: Did you people with the problem have HTML in the gallery descriptions before migrating over?

I did, yes. I actually had a link AND an Adsense Java unit. The Adsense just disappeared upon migration, and the link remained and is functional.

    Hey Zac -
I have some gallery descriptions with HTML in them and some without.

These galleries does not have HTML in the description - it shows a description when I am logged in but not when I am logged out:
    http://www.denisegoldberg.com/Coastal-glimpses/mid-coast-Maine-2013/
    http://www.denisegoldberg.com/Fragments/Top-13-images-2012

This is an old gallery where the description shows both logged in and logged out:
    http://www.denisegoldberg.com/Travel-stories/Wandering-assisted-by-2-feet

This gallery has HTML in the description. The description shows when logged in but the <a href= does not work. When I'm not logged in the description is missing:

Thanks Adam and Denise. Well there goes my theory. Was thinking that it had something to do with descriptions that had HTML in them before the move. Stumped, so I will let our QA department look into it.

Zac, a related topic: there are no gallery views that appear to have descriptions in them either now. Since all my folder titles were dates (so they would sort correctly before), my descriptions have names and details instead of titles. Old Smugmug view showed both title and description in gallery overviews before opening one.

I can confirm that HTML does not seem to make a difference. I just checked and it is affecting gallery descriptions without HTML also in my case.

I have the same problem, which was not visible before I 'unveiled' the new site: extremely annoying. Looking forward to a prompt solution which does not involve copying damn code.

My gallery descriptions don't show when I'm logged out - same as everyone else!

As I mentioned in another post, I have a different problem. If I use 'recent galleries' in the Galleries block, I see descriptions both logged on and off. If I use other methods such as 'choose a folder', then there is no description for either logged on or off.

I hate to pile on, but I too have had all my gallery descriptions disappear after unveiling this morning.

Yes, I would like a response to this too. It seems really weird that not a single option allows you to have Gallery descriptions alongside the Gallery thumbnails when viewing a Category/Folder view. Seems like a massive oversight as many users rely on the description text to help guide visitors to relevant galleries of interest.

Same here :^( Virtually all my galleries have descriptions, many with html links in. All worked well when I was logged in so I Unveiled last night. Hope they come back soon, my site is pretty hopeless without them.

So could someone at Smugmug please give us an update on this, when will be getting our gallery descriptions back? I feel that my site is pretty useless without them it's just a bunch of photos.

It's a bit annoying because I never would have unveiled if I had known about this problem but there was no way to check first as we could not see how our new site would look if we were not logged in before unveiling.

I'm sure there are people still unveiling their new sites today thinking everything is OK, they wont even notice this problem until someone reports it to them if they are always logged in.

I know bugs happen but please give us an update on a fix or if you are even working on one.

    Thanks.

Here's the reply I got from support about missing gallery descriptions:

    "Hi Jesse,

Thanks for contacting SmugMug. I'm sorry about that! Our team is aware of the issue and is working on getting it fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Please let us know if you have any further questions."

    So that's something...I guess.
