Paypal support in New Smugmug

I have a mature, reliable and simple Paypal customisation on my current Smugmug site. One of the biggest issues I have always had with Smugmug was how little attention they gave their international pros in terms of other payment processors or non-USD orders. They recently added (very) limited and kludgey foreign currency support but it still is next to useless for me.

SO my Paypal integration is the only solution that works for me.

It uses Javascript to place a unique identifier in the paypal submission so I can get the image filename.

Does anyone have a clue how we'll be able to add an HTML only customisation that will still allow for the filename (or URL) to be passed to paypal so I can get an order with enough info to provision?

Or were the Hero statements that "Paypal will still work because HTML customisation is still allowed" wrong?

Cheers - Neil G

So far I am getting an apparently official answer from three sources saying we're screwed. Well, actually, they're saying it's fine since they allow HTML customisation with apparently the wilful ignorance that the Paypal solution requires Javascript.

They've thrown anyone relying on JS under the bus. You can assume that in a few months they are going to turn off this key functionality and stop me selling photos.

I'm in the same boat with Paypal for my youth soccer business. I also need JS for custom search functions for the ski racing side of my business. Without JS, I'm not sure what I will do. I just hope legacy mode will be around for a long time... surely they knew they would be messing with those of us that did self-fulfillment.

Just to keep this alive - I fear SMugmug know their JS decision kills paypal and are lying to us in suggesting that it will work fine with the HTML boxes...

Yes, a provocative statement, but they have repeatedly stated that Paypal will work fine since it's just HTML... Are they nuts?

Yes you can use Paypal without any javascript but if you want to pick up the filename on an order automatically, you need javascript. The workaround is to have your customers type in the file name into the paypal order. When you create your paypal button, you just need to include a field for this.

Is this the right approach? I don't think so and I need javascript for other reasons as well.

other sites (we wont mention Zenfolio) allow you to choose either to pay by Card or PayPal.

I'm sure that if 'they' can do it then it's REALLY simple for Smug to implement it as well.

Without JavaScript support of some kind, this is the future of smugmug. They can't implement features they know are needed in anything resembling a timely manner. Less popular add ons have no chance. This is such a big one, it defies explanation.

After I've fixed up any issues identified by rich56k, that PayPal button extension will be ready for public use :). Probably within the next day.
