I finally made it to Florida to go bird shooting with Harry. So far I've had a really great time and believe that I could get into this bird thing. :):

I'm new at all this so I am going to leave it up to Harry to tell you what all the birds are. I'll take a guess when I think I have a pretty good idea. I'll correct any errors when I get home to my bird guides. Yep, you guessed it, I forgot my books. Well, at least I remembered to bring the cameras and lenses.

As always, comments and suggestions are appreciated. Go easy on me because I'm relatively new at this birding thing.

Nice set of shots, Dixie. Welcome to the "dark side" of photography (birding). :D

Glad to see you shot with Harry and lived to tell about it. I've heard he feeds every 3rd shooter to the 'gaitors. :uhoh

    Hey Dixie,

I hate it when visitors come down and get better shots than me. :pissed

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Dixie, believe me I know how hard and exhausting it is shooting with Harry, you must be very tired after having to schlep his gear, wait while he constantly changes lenses, fiddles with his bags, stops for coffee, yadda yadda yadda. C'mon up to NY and I'll show you the same lol3.gif

    Lovely shots.

Thanks Mike. I only saw two gators and they were fairly small. One about 4 ft long and the other maybe 6-7 ft long. They were more intent on sleeping in the sun than munching on me.

Thanks Ginger. Actually I think that I drug the bad weather down. Cloudy for about half of yesterday and somewhat chilly and very cloudy today. Heading home in the morning because the rest of the week is suppose to be rainy. It was also very windy today. Something like the day we shot together.

Thanks Andy. I'll take you up on the New York offer this coming year. It's been better than 20 years since I've shot in the city or other areas for that matter. Back in the late 70s & early 80s I shot in the city and all around the state.

Luckily, Harry and I each drove our own cars around the wetlands and Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge so that kept me from having to carry Harry. Besides, he needs a mule to haul that 500 around.

Thanks Jeff. It did take a little getting use to. I normally do fairly long exposures on a tripod with the lens stopped down a lot. With the birds I tended to go AV with narrow DOF and most shots handheld.
