"Thumbnails" Gallery Style and "Crop Thumbnail"

When using the "Thumbnails" Gallery Style the thumbnails don't show cropping done with the "Crop Thumbnail" edit command. The cropping does appear when using square thumbnails with the "SmugMug" Gallery Style.

What's the proper way to adjust the centering of the square thumbnails shown in the "Thumbnails" Gallery Style?

OK, here's a test gallery with a single photo, and here's a gallery of three screen shots of the test gallery, which I'll also show below. I'm using Safari on Mac OS X 10.8.4 on a Retina MacBook Pro.

The first screen shot is SmugMug style with square thumbnails after using Edit Thumbnail to create a 1:1 crop to better center the subject.




The second screen shot is after switching to Thumbnails style. The centering crop has gone away.




The third screen shot is after resizing the browser window to make it quite small while still in Thumbnails style. A smaller thumbnail is now shown and the centering crop has returned.
