Slideshow flashes

If I display the full screen slideshow by hitting the "Slideshow" button on a Gallery, the display flashes after a new photo is displayed. The refresh of the photo is smooth, but is followed by a flash.

Go to http://photos.goughy.com/Landscapes/Utah/Capitol-Reef and hit "Slideshow".

I am using "new" SmugMug with Safari Version 6.0.5 (8536.30.1) on an iMac running OS X 10.8.4.

Anyone else seeing this?

I just looked and your link and I do not see a "flash", just a nice smooth transition.

Firefox & Safari on an IMac

    Good Luck.

Thanks for looking. This is going to be awkward to track down.

I guess I'll wait and see if anyone else can see the problem and/or has a solution.

    That's strange!

I get the same flashing on another iMac, but it is as smooth as silk on an iPad and a Mac Mini.

    Seems ok to me..
I just looked using Firefox (22.0) and Safari (Version 6.0.5 (8536.30.1)) on my 21.5" iMac (Mid 2010) running OSX 10.8.4 and it looks fine to me too.

I note that you have two copies of a photo of a gorge with just a head with cap in the lower left corner. The first is blurry but the second looks ok.

Migrated to the "new smug mug" and I see terrible flashing on my slideshows transitions as well. Mac mini with 27" (2560x1440) monitor (OS X 10.8.4 and Safari 6.0.5) Also the images used to expand to full screen after 2nd or 3rd image was loaded, this is no longer happening so i see a big black border. If I move the safari browser to the secondary monitor (1680x1050) the images now have smooth transitions but are not centered and cut off at the bottom (most likely incorrectly using the main monitor's height)

Gerry, thanks for looking. The gallery definitely needs some culling of poor shots!

Sventekoz, thanks for taking the time to look.

Andy - interesting that you are also having some issues with th new slideshow.

My iMacs are both 27" and running at 2560x1440. The mid-2011 with a Radeon HD 6770M is worse, showing some blocky effects in the actual image when the display flashes. The newer late-2012 iMac with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M is not so bad - maybe the flash is just quicker on the faster display.

The MacMini is using dual Dell 2405FPW displays at 1920x1200 with its Intel HD Graphics 4000 chipset. The slideshow is on one display only.

The iPad is an iPad3 with a retina display.

Maybe, the problem is caused by the higher pixel count on the iMacs. The actual images are not full screen but are nicely centered and change size correctly depending on the original size of the photo. The transition between images is very smooth. The flashing seems to occur a couple of seconds or so later.

I think I'll file a bug report. (Edit: Will add to Andy's existing bug report)

    Thanks everyone.

I tested with another Mac at my office. Mac PRO with 3 connected monitors (two of them 30" with 2560x1600). Same problem with flickering as my Mac mini with Apple's 27" display at home. The transition is a bit smoother but still flickering before and after transitions. Also, the images never fill the entire screen like they used to (after 2 or 3 photos) with the old slideshow. Yes, it appears that large pixel count is to blame. The third monitor in vertical setup (1200x1600) on same Mac PRO connected to same video card has no problems. I'll update the bug report.

OP. I am at my office and just checked your slide show again. Windows machine this time. No flashes, just a smooth transition, and when you permit full screen (office machine I had to "allow" it...) your images cover corner to corner of this monitor (HP 24 in) using IE. Also the same is true on my personal MacBook Pro Retina... on Safari, FireFox & Chrome.

Gutowskia: Do you have a link we can look at to see if we can see what you see?

Thanks for posting this up guys as I too like slideshows and use them.

    Hmmmmm no flash here either.

It seems to be related to high pixel count/resolution.

There is a Bug Reporting thread at http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=237008. In the second post I give some details of which of my systems show the problem and which don't.

I think I read somewhere else that the Slideshow will be updated to a slicker version, so I guess this bug will probably have a low priority.

I've noticed this flashing as well, on my iMac. I don't use the slideshow feature much, and just figured it was a bug that will get worked out eventually.

Michael, I reported this to Barb yesterday.. with a movie to show her. Definitely flashes on Safari Mac. Also square images were not centered, they were flush to the top of the screen.

You can see it in action here's a vid: http://www.moonriverphotography.com/Other/Slideshow-bug/n-rfHzh/i-kh9B6td
