Ok, I have the Canon ex580 flash, I really like the AF assist on it (like the SOny's laser better but oh well). A question that I have though is, is there a way to just use the AF feature in dark situations and not have the flash go off? Before someone says RTFM, I moved not to long ago and I cannot find my manual.

I think you could hold the shutter button half way and not let up, then reach up with your left hand and turn off the flash. Then complete the shutter push. i haven't tried it , but it seem like it should work.
