Feature Gallery Image not displaying

I have found that when I go to my website that about 1/3 of the galleries do not show the "Feature Image" and show a broken picture icon (Chrome) or are simply blank (Firefox):

Galleries.JPG

Here is a shot of the settings for that first gallery missing a feature image:

Galleries%20Settings.JPG

However, when I am logged in to my site, the picture appears:

Galleries%20Logged%20In.JPG

After logging in, if I log out and go back to the site it shows the pictures appropriately, until I clear my browser cache and then the same galleries fail again. This is true for both Chrome and Firefox so far. I have deleted the selection of a Feature Image and selected them again. I have also deleted the selection of a Feature Image and chosen entirely different pictures to use. No change with either strategy. I even allowed the smugmug system 12 hours to update with still no change.

Any thoughts on why or how to fix this?

Thanks!

I have exactly the same issue. All the settings appear to be the same for each gallery/folder yet some show up and some do not. All from the client side of the site. I DID find that the photos populate once I'd entered the password for the gallery.

I am also having an issue of missing photos. While cross browser testing, Firefox is fine. Not working in IE, Chrome or Safari (iOS). I'm also missing my logo in those browsers and one of the featured images on my homepage does not show up despite removing and adding back. If it helps the wizards, I noticed if I left the dimensions box empty, my logo returns to all browsers. Sadly, there is no current fix on my end for displaying the invisible 'broken' cover images or the missing featured image on my homepage.

I have exactly the same issue as the one captured above. The images eventually appear if I refresh (F5) enough times.

I'd be willing to bet that the issue is that the galleries aren't allowing a password protected image to show - so when you're logged in you probably see it, but if you're logged out it's broken. If I set the features image from an unprotected gallery it seems to work fine.

I hope you have written down all the passwords for all those galleries because all you get in settings is ********* for the password.

I initially thought it might be a password protection issue as well, except all my galleries are protected and 2/3 of them display the pictures without any issue. It seems random to me, yet it is always the same galleries that do not show up when I clear my browser cache and act like a new person visiting my site. Very frustrating.

Guys, I found a glitch last night where collected photos in a gallery can not be moved into the gallery they are from. There is no way to tell they are 'collected' that I know of. The old system was able to allow them to just duplicate over and we could delete the collected one. I'm wondering if maybe our cover images are collected and result in the error? It's worth a check. Find the photos you used that don't display and see where they originate. It should say the gallery name below the keyword or another glitch, the collected ones wouldn't allow me to click on the tool icons. Let me know if anyone finds anything. Could be nothing, but I'm curious.

I think I may have figured it out... In the gallery settings, under Security & Privacy, make sure External Embedding is set to ON. Seems to have fixed it for me.

n1r0t - I Think You Did Figure It Out! I don't know if maybe that setting did not carry over in the transfer, but after turning External Embedding on they all finally show up! Thank You!!!!!

Glad it seems to be the solution. Going to be a pain to manually select that for each gallery though. Wish there were a way to batch edit it! Am I missing something?

If that's the solution, then awesome to you. I'll have to check my galleries, but all of mine were previously set to allow external embedding. Unless the transfer changed settings...

Check in the organizer, I think you can select a bunch and change settings.

    n1r0t,
Yes, there is a way to batch edit your galleries. Go to the organizer, navigate to a folder and select all the galleries in that folder. Then click on the Settings button at the top of the organizer. You'll see the Bulk Gallery Settings window appear. Notice that all of the options are greyed out, with a checkbox next to each setting. Very important: the items which you check off will be applied to all your selected galleries. So please only check off the settings(s) that you want to change for ALL the galleries you have selected. Since we want to change the External Embedding, go to the Security & Privacy tab, check the box, and turn that setting to ON. Save the changes.

At this time, unfortunately there's not a way to select all the galleries on your site at once for the Bulk Gallery Settings. However, going through folder by folder should be significantly faster than doing it for each individual gallery.

Thanks Megan! That was really helpful. I'm not going to admit how long I tried just clicking "ON" without first checking the box... =/

Glad y'all found a fix for "your" problems! Not me! I, too, am getting the blank image on various folders and galleries using Chrome and Mac. These are not password protected. Not sure about the External embedding. When I go back and re-select the Feature Image from the same gallery, it works (so probably not an external embedding issue for me). Sometimes I had to refresh the browser to get it to show up and then it stuck just fine. The first time I saw this, I went and fixed them all (about 10 or so). Then, later, I managed to really screw up the content block size for showing all galleries at Browse (was trying to switch to a menu on the left instead of at the top in SmugMug Theme). Wound up deleting the content block and then putting it back. After doing that, there were missing feature images again and NOT the same ones! Went back and fixed them all again. This was yesterday. Will see if more disappear and report back here if they do.

EDIT: I'll check the embedding if they do. PROBABLY, the embedding is off 'cause way back when most galleries were created, I thought maybe that feature would allow other people to embed my images on their site and I wasn't sure I wanted that. Like I said, though, they work after reselecting the image.

If it helps anyone, the photos can't be hidden, password protected or inside a folder or gallery that is hidden or password protected. At least that has fixed the issue for me! :)

    No Hero Response
Cannot believe there has been no Hero response to this thread. Currently, have not seen the problem come back. Perhaps SmugBug saw a bug and fixed it and decided just to keep it close to home.

I've not had my issue return after my post explaining how I solved it. Either just a coincidence or the bug was fixed on their end. ne_nau.gif

Soul Gaze, you are the best. Can't imagine why they don't contract you. Maybe it was a bad poem!:D

EDIT: Maybe in the next day or two I will post in the Support Forum a request to make you a Hero! Certainly, you have given us more support with enthusiasm and clear direction than some of the existing Hero's. And going through the list of current Hero's, some of them I have never seen actually give any advice! clap.gifwings.gifbowcheerleader.giffeelgoodylsuper.gifs85
