(X-Post) Migration Problem with Custom Pages

Hi,
While I'm really enjoying the new SM there are a few things I haven't figured out yet. I had some very customized pages before which where essentially my own HTML. This includes About and Contact Information pages.
I've been able to do everything without custom code so far. But I am stuck at this one spot trying to figure out how to get rid of Smugmug's AREA RESERVED FOR SMUGMUG CONTENT which I definitely don't want on a fully custom page at all. Here is what it looks like while attempting to edit it:
How can I create a custom page without this reserved area and more importantly the stuff it leaves behind if not used like the Big Box with Gallery is Empty text in the middle. Surely there must a way to suppress this, hide it or better remove it altogether.
I also posted this question in the Customization area because it I'm not sure where best to ask it since it's really a Migration issue as well.
** Update: got a few good answers in the customize forum - off to try it!
Thanks,

Michael,
Thanks for all your hard work and for encouraging us to hang in there. It was worth it!!!
I bet your team is super excited that you could finally spill the beans and share it with the rest of us.
Your new website looks great BTW. I love that shot of the waterfall especially. Is that Iceland or???
