Smugmug Gallery Style Problem

Still sandboxing here, and will be for a long time until some major bugs are fixed (Statcounter). Slowly overcoming many obstacles by reading the support forum, but this one has me baffled.
In the old legacy Smugmug, when using the "Smugmug" gallery style, the number of rows and columns for the thubmnails would adjust automatically to fit and fill the screen. And the selected image display on the right would also adjust automatically to fit the screen.
In my new "sandbox" the thumbnails come up in 6 rows and 3 columns, regardless of the screen size. And in full screen (1920x1200) both the thumbs and selected image display fall off the bottom of the screen.
Anybody know how to control this behavior? Any way to make it behave correctly, like the old?
I'm stumped and confused, because I've looked a a few other "new" format sites that use the Smugmug gallery style and they are all different. They have different row and column numbers for the thumbs, and they don't fall off the bottom of my screen.

I could be wrong, but I think I had to use customization and CSS and maybe one of JFriend's routines to accomplish the expanding number of thumbs and the auto resizing of the right hand image. At least that is what I thought when I set up my NEW preview site with the "SmugMug" theme and noticed right away what you have seen. I wish this could be changed, too. I am thinking they decided .....................
WHOOPS! I just rechecked that and found that as I make my screen even larger, the 4 wide column of thumbs expanded to 5 columns. When I shortened the screen, it went back to 4 columns. When I shortened more, the 4 columns of thumbs became smaller thumbs but maintained a 4 column set. The larger image also got smaller. This would keep happening until it simply got rid of all thumbs and then gave a little bit LARGER right hand image...of course without any next/previous icons. The arrow keys did let me go to prev/next image. I have a 15 inch screen laptop (Mac) - so, I don't know what happens if you had a larger screen. So, it seems like this feature is working for me in the PREVIEW mode (not unveiled yet).
I can't read your post while typing this in...so I hope I am on topic with this.
I think you may have hit the same problem I was wrestling with recently and found the settings for the top design layer (Entire Site) were configured for "Fixed" instead of "Stretchy". Since I was playing around - trying out many different "Site Designs" - I wasn't paying attention to the fact that I'd select a new design and start the "customization" process with "Homepage" selected. So, even if I went to Layout and selected "Stretchy" - that wouldn't change things for some of the selections.
Try this - select "Customize Site". Select "Entire Site" in the upper right. Then select the Layout tab and see if the current design you are working with is Fixed or Stretchy.

I'm tired of trying, wish the SmugMug staff would maintain a list of updates/things fixed so I'd know when to try again. Far as I can tell, they haven't fixed anything yet.
To be clear - my information wasn't intended to imply it would "fix" your display issues entirely.
I'm in agreement with you. While there are some other issues that make me hesitate as well, the intention for my site is ultimately to lead people into the galleries. The old default SmugMug gallery design wasn't perfect - but it did a better job of fitting to the different browser windows that people would open. In particular, cliches aside (a thousand words - blah, blah, blah), I like to add lengthy text "descriptions" within the title space with information about each photo. In the old design, that could get cut off a bit - but at least the user could see some hint at the bottom that showed there was text. The new design cuts off the bottom of picture - let alone the title and text beneath. Yes, the user can scroll - but I'm pretty sure they won't (particularly if you have to do so every time you enter a new gallery). So, for now, I'm keeping the legacy design as well.
What might address these issues would be the ability to set an aspect ratio when using "Stretchy". Or the ability to set both height and width for fixed. Ultimately, I'd just like more control over the design of the galleries. Perhaps that will come. I do acknowledge that a lot of work went into this redesign. I'm hopeful the issues being raised will be dealt with as quickly as possible. And then perhaps they'll have the chance to address some additional customization needs too.
