Slideshow is a huge step down -- am I missing something?

I used jFriend's slideshow for both a home page auto-display, and to replace the slideshow button. It had MANY features, and had become a mainstay for many users at Smugmug.
The new slideshow seems rather limited in comparison (and I think that's quite a complement). Are there advanced settings, such as alternative transitions? The auto slideshow on the gallery page doesn't even seem to permit any options at all (did I miss them?)
This is really disappointing since such a great model was available before, and was clearly used, liked and had set an expectation. I get it that some other features may be a bit raw, and likely to be cleaned up over time, but this is an area where there was a clear set of expectations and we got -- well, pretty plain.
Or... as I said ... am I missing something?

Jfriend provided a lot of neat tricks that spoiled many of us over the last couple of years. Hopefully there will be some cool things coming soon with the new SM. Already several have found some ways to make improvements with css. The threads get buried so fast it's hard to find unless your online at the time they're posted, but browse through the customization section and you'll find a way to add a little something to your slideshow.
They aren't quite as good as the Jfriend version, but a little better than stock.

Good advice, but no use at all for users with Basic accounts who are stuck with SM's reduced-fat offering, having no option to customise their code.
