I couldn't find it either. There is a setting to turn on captions if you add a Slideshow content block. But, I couldn't seem to find a setting that controlled it for the gallery style. Maybe put in a feature request for that?

I found it: go into the Customize Site tool and go to the page with your slideshow. Click on the wrench to change the settings and then click on the "Playback" tab. You will find an OFF ON button near the bottom labeled Captions.

    Hope that helps.

Is that for a Slideshow content block? I think the OP was looking for the setting for when you've chosen the gallery style of Slideshow. Is there a wrench available with settings for that?

Yes - I just added a slideshow to my main page with the Captions turned on.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to change the font color...

Do you see the caption if you start slideshow this way "Customize > Gallery Style > Slideshow"?

Ok - You got me there. I dug around in the gallery settings as well as the Customize Site settings to set specific options for a single gallery and I did not find the same option to show photo captions. This may be a limitation of the "Quick Gallery Setting".

It was available when I created a slideshow on my home screen. So, following that logic, it may be possible to create a custom gallery page with the customizer that would allow you to turn the Captions on or off.

I believe you can save the settings once you have it the way you like it so you can use the custom template in other galleries.

NOTE: To be fair, I haven't walked through all of those steps to verify the customization works in a gallery, but it did work as expected when I set up my home page.

and lowering and centering captions - slideshow
My slideshow on homepage shows captions. Went to customize, homepage, wrench for slideshow, and then playback - captions on off there. What I cannot find is a way to have the text UNDER the image and CENTERED to the image. I found ways to do that for all my galleries and images - but not during the slideshow. Any help here with that?
