I tend to do a lot of macro (good, bad , or indifferent, lol)...

The cropped sensors are more forgiving than full frame, so which would be best to get?

The new 70D, or the now 3+ years old 7D?

Paul.

Limiting the scope to macro and close focus photography, I think that either model body would do you nicely. No particular advantage that would be terribly significant for macro work.

If you wanted to compose and focus in Live View (LV), the 70D does have Phase Detect AF in LV, compared to Contrast Detect in LV for the 7D. Don't know how much of a difference that might make.

The 100 percent viewfinder of the 7D is always nice, but honestly you can get used to, and adjust to, the 98 percent view of the 70D.
