keywords and search engines

I note that the new SM makes it easier to add keywords in various places. I always thought that search engines such as Google took a dim view of adding your own name/business name apart from in the top-level keywords for the site, as some people put their name keywords in other places to try and get higher ranked. Is that actually the case?

Is it detrimental to put your name/business name keywords in, say, an image?
