Your site has a nice look to it but the fact that with every click on your menu you open a new browser tab ruins it for me. When a web site does that my usual reaction is to close the site and not return.

If you're trying to attract new viewers or customers you might consider adding a few galleries that show a sampling of your work. Under "body of work" you have a Portfolio entry. I clicked it thinking I would see some of your work but all I saw was a password-protected gallery.

    ^^^^ What Denise wrote.
Open a new window only when the user is being taken off your site and you think they would probably want to keep a tab for your site open.

Otherwise you have a nice site.

I would think carefully about your background image. The white flower makes white text almost unreadable. For my taste, it also interferes with a lot of the images.

On your Love Notes page, I would center align your social media icons.

I love your colors on the homepage. :)
In this scaled down image to fit DG's requirement, in PINK, it think you want to
    - make sure email and Facebook, land on the line above? Not each on their own line?
    - and I'm thrown by the location and spacing of the social icons, far left, two rows, awkward spaces between them. Not sure what the fix is here. The container width needs to be widened and a left margin set?

Here's mine. I've been working on it a bit more recently. Added some new content, and migrated the few paltry blog posts I created in Blogger over to Smugmug. I'm pretty happy with it, although I do get a bit frustrated with the customisation tools sometimes.

Wow, you did a great job, and have some stunning work there.

As a user, I'm not a big fan of going straight into lightbox when you click a thumb (as on your home page), just because with the lightbox you lose all the branding, navigation controls, etc. It's different when you click on a button "Slide Show" because mentally it prepares you to "leave" the site. No big deal though -- just a personal preference.

Saved on my favorites! Love your work so much....honestly, I think its the best i've ran across on here. I love the before and after portion of your site....what a great idea. I have never played with Photoshop (EXPENSIVE! haha) but its making me think about investing in it. Love love love it.

Stunning work Peter. I enjoyed looking at your site. Your blog is informative as well...I like your camera reviews and the page on buying new and second hand gear in Hong Kong.

Wow thanks for the positive feedback guys. I do want to work on adding more content, but my problem has always been about how to customise the main intro page. I don't want a full screen slideshow. Would ideally like to have a setup with lots of information and links on the front page, to try and keep people engaged and explore the site more.

well you can add information blocks on the homepage.....you have to play around with it. I happen to like the fullscreen slideshow myself but I know why a lot of people do not. Here is something that will make your day, I want to be as good as you with photography. :D

Your site and your photos are beautiful.

The one thing I think would benefit from a change is your menu. I find small dark gray letters against a black background to be difficult to read. In addition, it seems that your menu entries are really crammed into the space on the left of the screen.

Thanks for the replies. Ideally I don't want to have grey text, but i can't get it setup to display in white.
Also, thanks for letting me know about the menu entries, I noticed that on a tablet the whole top menu bar looks really crammed.

I've finally taken the plunge and migrated from Legacy SM. After much tweaking, I've gotten my site the way I like it. I'm still working out a couple issues (the "See Caption" caption text in the lightbox isn't displaying correctly; a glitch with the search feature not working in mobile versions, etc.), but I've unveiled and I'm pretty happy with the results. I was hesitant to upgrade to the new Smugmug, but I'm so glad I did. Customizations are so much easier in this version.

First off, love the shots :) however, I think the background color is clashing with your header. When I am loading a page or on a page (IE gallery page), you cant even tell what it says. Other than that, good job :D

    Your site looks great!

The one thing I would recommend is that you either make your pages unlisted or that you assign a feature image to them. Your browse page looks unfinished with the essentially empty gray rectangles representing your pages.

I finally unveiled the other day and have been fixing bugs all over the place.

I had to add IE specific CSS to get one of my banner bottom margins to work. I have two different
banners, one for entire site and one for my bird galleries and a few other pages. I've only checked
IE11 and Firefox24. I've added two "entire site" CSS blocks (one for add and one for remove) each
with over 900 entries for specific galleries. A great big thanks to Smug for not adding flow down
class names. :pissed BTW, have lots more to change.

I've added a "Map This" simulate link to gallery descriptions where some/all photos in a gallery are GEO
tagged. Really bad when only a couple photos are tagged out of 100's. You'd have to go through
every photo looking for the GEO globe under a photo. Not finished yet.
    example in description http://www.photosbyat.com/Birds/Missouri-Bird-Photos-A-G/i-TN7c4SW

My bird pages are basically set up like a journal, year, month and day, not for pretty photo
presentation. New Smugmug style sucks but its the only way to quickly go thru a gallery looking at
    specific photos.

I'm in the process of adding "Open in lightbox" link in caption of videos. ~90 0f 394 done.
    smart gallery http://www.photosbyat.com/MyKeywords/Bird-Videos/n-gF9bt/i-Hs3j9Hz

    Have I said it's been fun :D

Any thoughts, screw ups, errors, suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention, on my iPhone the homepage slideshow title overlaps the text box.
...and on some ipads according to screenfly. Also my mobile menu looks ok on very small screens.

Hi, I just shifted over to the new Smugmug. So far I like it a lot, but I still struggle a bit to find some of the old touches. I have placed CSS code in a number of places to get rounded images, but have not had much success. Also, I still do not understand how customize> All Galleries works or why it is needed. Other than this, I'm enjoying the new site at www.bonitaphotos.com and would love to hear comments. Thanks.

The color, vibrancy, and energy in your photos are breath-taking. :)
An example of what one might customize in All Galleries: I added a title content block. Visitors will see the gallery title when they visit. The trick on adding this particular content block is that when you drag it into place, it auto-populates the title of the gallery you happen to be in at the time you go into "customize/all galleries". You would need to delete the title out of the block, leaving that field blank, before saving, done, and publishing. If you left that title in the field, ONLY that title would populate EVERY gallery.

Looks very much like your old site only freshened up. I assume that's what you were going for based on your previous comments on other threads.
I'm a big fan of maps as I incorporated them on my site as well and I think it works perfectly for nature photographers.
I would use a different, more legible typeface for your banner.

Thanks, Dave. It was a struggle getting everything to work like the old site with every page
independent. On the old site I could create a div in the header and with CSS place it on
    multiple pages.

Thanks Jeff! I appreciate your feedback! I also noticed the header issue with IE. My header is actually transparent, and seems to display correctly on Chrome and Firefox, but on IE it appears with a black background. Very annoying, but I'm not sure what to do to fix that. I'm open to suggestions. :-)

Thanks Denise! It's actually been kinda fun tweaking things and working with the new Smug. I was never really that happy with my galleries on my old Legacy site, so this is a big improvement I think.

Thanks for the suggestion about the pages. I added a screenshot of each page as the feature image. I may go back and make them unlisted, but I'll see how this works for now.

Well finally managed to get my site updated. Love the way new smugmug works and having learnt from the legacy version I decided to keep CSS to a minimum and work with what smugmug had to offer. They used my architectural shots as the basis for the 'Arrow' template but I actually chose 'Turbo' as the template for my site and worked from there. Just need to upload about 40 shoots now and a dozen magazine articles and I'm there i think, ha!
