Here's a little exercise for us all. I can use all suggestions.

SETUP: In two weeks Cyndi and I will be shooting the Dominican Republic for our World Tour project. The theme is to celebrate the DR's championship in this year's World Baseball Classic. Since both Cyndi and my DiL/art director Anylza are Dominican, this one will be a total blast.
Both Cyndi and Anylza will be the models. Both will be wearing baseball gear including caps.

PROBLEM: I've arranged a pro baseball stadium for the shoot BUT the only time I can use it is from 9:00 to 11:30 AM. Mr. Sun will be in full force. What to do, what to do.

EQUIPMENT: Aside from the camera, I will have one or two studio strobes with a Vagabond mini to power them. Also, two 48" 5 in one reflectors and three speedlights. Three (3) radio triggers for the whole mess. Most likely no assistants.

So given all that, any suggestions on how not to get crushed on here when I post the images from the shoot?

Can you rent Pocket wizzards mini tt5. This will give you high speed sync with speed lights. A stadium does have harsh lighting so the speed lights might be a good fit.

Interesting thought Hack. I'll look into it.

I don't plan on "action" shots although we may fake them.

Not necessarily action shots but you can shoot wide open and use very high shutter speeds or very low f stops with high shutters.

Bounce over to the pull back thread and look at the last two pages where I used speedlights. Next to the last page was done between 10 and 11. The last page was done 6:15 to 7 pm.

Lucky you, I recommend that you put a variable neutral density filter on your camera. That will allow you to shout at low F numbers . I use a variable ND on my camera, not cheap but I can turn it from 0.5 to full dark. Combined with a few large diffuser screen , I am sure that you can make it.
The alternative is to flash the sun away. But that might take 1200 Watt/second flashlights.

A couple of thoughts flashed into my marginally functioning organic hard drive.

First I bought a 10"X10" (Cheap) canopy awhile ago. The fabric is white and
more like a diffuser than a material that would completely block the sun.

Maybe you could buy a white bed sheet there and use that.

I have never been to the Dominican Republic, but I believe it's a rather poor country and as such I would think you could hire some local people to assist at a very modest rate.

Also if you can visit the stadium before the shoot at the time of day maybe there is a section of the field
    dugout, etc still in shade.

    Good luck!!

    Thanks Sam.

We aren't actually in the Dominican, any more than we went to China or Japan. My wife is pretty easygoing but taking a 24 year old model/friend to those places just might not go well. rolleyes1.gifrofl

I just ordered an Odin system to go with my Strato 2s so I'll hopefully have a week to play with HSS. It would not bother me at all to NOT drag the studio lights around although I'll keep them in the car.

I don't usually have assistants so I'm probably on my own here.

ain't that the sad truth. and when Hillary is out of town we have Governor Andy and Nanny Bloomberg to cover for her, not to mention Schmuck Schumer.
