So I am in a documentary photography class at my university, and for the final project we have to find a relevant social issue to do a photo essay over.

I decided to pursue a situation that I think is pretty interesting for this area (I live in the more conservative part of Texas), so I got in contact with this guy whom I knew through my university.

He's a bisexual, non-denominational Christian who dresses in drag on weekends and goes to the gay clubs here in town.

Here are (most of) the photos I've chosen to illustrate the story.

Thank you. The club part kind of stressed me out since I don't usually shoot in that environment. I ended up manual focusing almost all the shots because I just couldn't rely on the AF. I have so many "great moment! But it's out of focus...." shots haha.

Agree, this is a great story in images. And #9 club shot is one that stands out for me.

Thank you. I think part of what helped is that the story is very visual anyways. I know several people in my class who tried to tackle issues that are a lot more abstract, which I think would be more challenging to convey in images. I might try and pursue a story like that soon, just to see if I am capable of doing it.
