I am considering purchasing this camera with the 18-55 kit lens as an alternative to lugging around my Nikon dSLRs, in hopes that I will take it with me more often. But I am concerned about using an EVF, as opposed to the full-view optical VFs on my D3s and D300.

Also, any other feedback is most welcome!

The EVF is really good. I have 2 of these and an x100s (which has both an EVF and OVF), and I catually leave the x100s in EVF mode as I prefer it to the optical viewfinder.

BTW, the x100s is my favourite of the 2 cameras, so if you can live with a 35mm equiv. fixed lans, I recommend it.

I have an X100S and a 5D3. I cannot stand the EVF, so I leave it in OVF mode always. The XE-1 with 18-55 mounted is not pocketable, so I'm not sure how much you will want to take it along. The X100S will go in a loose pants pocket, so I take it with me on family outings and it does a great job.

An "accurate" reproduction of a scene and a good photograph are often two different things.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions -- much appreciated! I am not looking for a camera to fit in a pants pocket -- I could use my Canon A590 for that -- but one not as heavy nor bulky as my D300 with 16-85.

Most of my photography is of nature and landscapes, and relatively close-up portraits, so the zoom lens is a big advantage over a fixed 35mm FOV.

Unfortunately there are no local shops for trying out the EVF, and OVFs having served me excellently over the decades, am a bit leery.
