Feature Picture for Passworded Events

I use the event function for all the events that I photograph but find it frustrating that those events that are passworded to protect client's privacy appear simply as plain black squares on my new homepage which is otherwise a tapestry of colour....
Can you add an option to allow a single featured picture from one of the galleries within the event so that black boring squares don't ruin the otherwise loveliness of my new Smugmug...
Also, whilst I'm here, is it possible to customise the automatic email that gets sent out to anyone registering for any particular event...?

Turning on the "External embedding" for each gallery brings back the thumbnail. But that can't be the real solution... Do you think?

No, rather than being interested in individual galleries which apparently do carry feature images, (and I'm quite content to choose an anodyne picture to be the feature picture in order to safeguard my client's privacy), I'm more interested in the 'events' feature.
When you create an event, you can then group galleries into that event (so for instance I break down a wedding day into ten different galleries in order to not overwhelm any viewer with too many photograpsh and then group them all into an event). I then keep the galleries unpassworded, but also unlisted, and simply password the single event which the viewers then have to register to view.
This works well as it shows potential clients that I'm doing work, can add the event to the homepage to make it obvious for anyone looking for it, I'm harvesting email addresses for further e-marketing, and it all remains secure. So far, so good.
My problem is how the event actually is displayed on my homepage. If the event is NOT passworded, the tile on my homepage is the feature page of the first gallery in the event, and that looks great. If the event IS passworded, it simply shows up as a black square.
It is to that black square that I want to affix a feature picture, and yet when you click on it, still have the same pop up registration box asking for a password.
It is simply a question of aesthetics - I don't want my homepage filled with black holes, rather I want a large tapestry of different styles and types of pictures which is why I chose that theme.
If you go to the page and have a look, you'll see what I mean - www.photography.elloydowen.com
If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to suggestions....

Not only do I not know how to fill the black holes for the passworded events, but I've actually realised I have no method of determining which pictures is the featured picture for the events aren't passworded.....
So if someone can shed any light on either matter, I'd be super grateful.
Thanks. Ed

Suffice to say, I was hoping that we might be able to get a handle on what progress has been made on all the issues in this thread: the black hole for public events, the feature image for events, and/or whether or not it is a bug that is fixable/going to be fixed.
What news?
