Folders & Galleries

I have not published my new site yet, so I'll have to try to explain what I'm trying to do. I have a navbar menu set up with Home, Info etc and also a tab called "Portfolio". Under the Portfolio tab there are folders for Nature & Wildlife, Landscapes, etc. The folders contain various galleries. However, one folder, called Everyday People, links to a gallery of my portrait samples. I would like to make this gallery open directly when I click on the folder instead of having to click first on portfolio, then on everyday people, then on the sample gallery. This is the basic layout:

Portfolio (Menu Item)
1 - Nature & Wildlife (Folder)
a - Birds (Gallery)
b - Mammals (Gallery)
2- Landscapes & Seascapes (Folder)
a- The Land (Gallery)
b - The Beach & the Shore (Gallery)
3 - Everyday People (Folder)
a- Portrait Samples (Gallery)

I would like the Portrait Samples to open directly when I click on Everyday People. Can I move the sample gallery up to folder level so that clients interested in my portrait work can go directly there? Or does every folder have to contain galleries? Or can a gallery show at the folder level? I hope I am making myself clear.
In my legacy site I had a separate tab on the navbar that linked to this gallery, but I wanted to clean it up a bit by including it under the Portfolio tab.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

You want to use a "folders, galleries, & pages" content block, then choose the 2 folders and the 1 gallery to display

let me know if that works!

Thanks for such a quick response, Moiraine. I couldn't figure out how to do it the way you described so I ended up moving the Samples gallery to the Portfolio tab. That left me with an empty "Everyday People" folder which I deleted. I then named the samples gallery Everyday People. It still ends up coming up as a gallery after the folders when you hit Portfolio. I would rather have it show as one of the main folders. But at least you only have to click once to get to it. It's probably easier your way, but I couldn't quite figure it out. I don't suppose a gallery can be made into a folder, can it?
    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi Humminbird,

can you explain how you couldn't do it the way i described? That's really the correct way to achieve what you're looking for.

If I understand correctly Kathy, you basically wanted a menu item that acted as a direct link to a specific gallery, correct? This can be accomplished by creating the item and setting its type to "Page I Choose" and then clicking the "Choose Page" link which will then allow you to drill down to select the specific gallery. This will create a menu item who's link will point to that gallery.

    Hope that helps!

Sorry, Moiraine & Snakeeey11. I guess I'm not clear. I don't want this gallery as a separate menu item, but to appear on the "folder" level when they click on my Portfolio tab. I'm happy with my menu which contains the following items: Home Portfolio Clients About Me Contact When I hit on my Portfolio tab, I get links to 4 folders: Nature & Wildlife, Landscapes & Seascapes, Creative & Abstract, and Travel. I also have one gallery under Portfolio called Everyday People that contains samples of portraits. I have people look at this gallery to see if my style is what they are looking for. Because it is a gallery, it shows up below the four folders. I would like to move it up a level to be treated as a folder, but opens directly without an extra click. Can that be done? I did have it as a menu item on my legacy site, but was told it would be "cleaner" to move it under the Portfolio tab.
    Thanks!

    Hi Kathy,

The way I described would accomplish what you are asking for, I believe.

    Try this:
    - go to your portfolio page
    - begin customizing your site
    - click "make this folder custom"
    - confirm your selection
    - open the navigation section
    - drag in a "Folders, Galleries & Pages" Content Block
    - "Select From > Items that I Choose"
    - click "Choose Items"

You should now be in an interface that allows you to select through your folders and choose anything you want.

    Things to note:
    - single clicking will select a folder
    - double clicking will allow you to dive into the folder to select things inside there
    - you can select items from any level!
    - to view what you currently have selected, you can expand the "selected" section on the right side
    - items will appear on the page in the order that you selected them in.

Once you have everything selected, click done, and see if you've gotten what you want.

Let me know if that helps, and if it's not working, at what point it's failing!

    Hi Moiraine,
Well, I started off following your directions until where you told me to drag in the "Folders, Galleries, & Pages block. When I did that I got a second block with a copy of the folders, but my gallery was added to the top (Folder) level as I wanted. Then I panicked because I was afraid the Portfolio menu item was going to be messed up with double blocks. Anyway, I took a chance and deleted the old content block and everything in the new block is where I wanted it to be! I never had to select "Items that I Choose" everything was already there when I dragged in the block. I really have no idea how it came out correctly, but if I hadn't started to follow your directions I wouldn't be in a happy place. So, Thanks! :)

No problem! If everything is already organized on the page, then that's why you didn't have to select "Items that I Choose". By default, it pulls in everything on the page you drop the content block on to.

If you were to want to, say, drag in items from DIFFERENT levels of organization, then "Items that I Choose" allows you to do so. I wasn't sure how you had arranged your site, so I figured I'd be safe and describe that method =)

    Glad everything's working!
