Opening from gallery to lightbox - image centered strangely

The issue that I am having is that when I am browsing a gallery and click on a image to have it open fullscreen (in lightbox? sorry not sure of the terminology!) the image is vertically centered very far down the page. I would like to have the image open at the top of the screen, as they do if you click the slideshow button.
I imagine I need to fix this with some kind of CSS box but I am unsure where to begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
