I had to go for it. To my eye the new layout just blows the old one out of the water. Much more appealing. I went through three designs before settling on the current published one. I think the ability to instantly flip to a different design will be interesting and fun.
I'm not a Pro user, so the legitimate concerns raised by users in that group don't necessarily apply to me.
I had some reservations, but it appears smugmug is set to address most, if not all, of them.
1) Navigation in the lightbox view
This refers to the disappearing nav buttons, close box and captions.
This has gotten a lot of attention - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=236734 - and it appears smugmug will address it. In the meantime my About page advises visitors how to navigate in the lightbox view and make the captions persistent.
2) In-ability to manually sort contents of the 'Folders, Galleries & Pages' block
I use this block on my home page as a replacement for the old "Featured Galleries" element. I intend to update it as I add new content so an easy way to update and sort it would be welcome.

Again, it seems smugmug is listening.
3) Sorting gallery contents in the Organizer
There's an intermittent bug where the manual sort order doesn't stick.

And a repeatable bug where photos moved as a block are inserted in random order

These are both clearly bugs and I hope smugmug will address them soon. In the meantime I will cope.
The organizer does not display filenames below the thumbs, making a manual sort difficult if the images are similar.
I've logged this in the Feature Requests forum - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=237729 - but no response yet from smugmug.
In the meantime, for new uploads, I'll make sure my filenames will create the right sort order.
