Background color updated immediately?

I just noticed that if I go in to the current "theme" and change for example the background color, the update seems to be instant. The new background color shows up immediately for all visitors to the galleries, even if I did not exit the customization (did not select Done and either "Publish Now" or "Publish Later")
Is this behaviour intentional? I thought that the principle was that you would not change anything "in public" until you press "Publish"?

    Please ignore this thread, I just realized that I posted this to the wrong forum, I suppose this belongs in the "Sumgmug Support" forum. I will repeat my question in the other forum since I have also a more expended question now.
