What fonts are you using in themes?

Google fonts http://www.google.com/fonts/

I have selected a font called Raleway in my themes, which I think looks rather cool and modern (bit like me really:rolleyes) I think it's applied now to all areas, both header and body text.

It's also useful when looking through the fonts to use the 'browse fonts' icon which takes you to Google and gives you example text for each font, and allows you to narrow the search down.

What fonts are you using? Post the link to your site so we can see the fonts used.

"Raleway" looks like a good match for your content thumb.gif

I'm playing about with "Crushed". There's only one Font Weight option for it though, I would have liked to see more options but it's near enough to where I want to be font-wise.

I've not unveiled yet but here's a link to a screenshot of it in dev:

I was somewhat surprised to not find old faves like Courier and Verdana on the Google list. Still, it's not like we're stuck for choice.

You can link to an individual font in Google, from the pop-out button, and paste it here http://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Titillium+Web

I was using Raleway also but recently switched to Marcellus. I like that you can browse the fonts before you use them.

I've settled on Lancelot & Trykker. I'm afraid I ended up doing it the SLOW way. While browsing them on Google was nice, I wanted to see the fonts actually on page, in my colors. I ended up trying every single one, one at a time! And since you can't use the mouse's scroll wheel to simply roll along the selections, like I do in Photoshop, it took a helluva lot of clicks...

Yes, it's useful. And the reason I started this thread is it's even better to see what certain fonts look like for another site before you start changing your own.thumb.gif

Yes, Photoshop is a lot quicker. It would be useful to have that feature here.

Did you really try every font?:wow

Yeah, looks like the Grumpy Wizard's toxic brew slaughtered the coders so much that they forgot to put in the text-wrap. Odd, when the rest of that box's content wraps properly.

Still, what's a bit of dodgy code here and there? rolleyes1.gif

I did indeed. I wanted to find just the right ones for my style. As I would find one I liked I'd write it down in a notepad. After I had a list of possible Heading fonts I then began to swap them back and forth, deleting the least favorite. It felt like sitting in the optometrist's chair being asked, "which is better, this one, or this one?"

As I mentioned before, while I saw them on Google's page, I had to be sure what they looked like on mine. Crazy...

I think I spent more time on the body text. I have an unusual color scene so I wanted to be sure it was readable without being fatiguing to the eye.

One quick question; I had looked for a font that wasn't available for free. I found it, and Google wanted $30. How does that work? Once you buy one it's then accessible to the site? How do unique fonts work on the web if you buy them from Google?

Sorry, not sure about that. there's an FAQ here that might clarify it. https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq

I'm using Merriweather Sans for the header and Open Sans for the body.. I was looking for something simple.

I found it easier to browse through the choices on the google web fonts page before selecting the font on my site.

It's a Bike Friday. Little wheels and a big chain ring means it has the same gearing as a big wheel bike. It packs into a suitcase that is the proper size for checked baggage on flights without paying a large excess baggage fee.
