Basic social media question

OK, very simple minded question. I don't do social media, never have. Might one day, but just not interested (and the data privacy issue is significant). I'm not a Luddite, my day job is I.T. by the way.

But...

I've never put any of SM's social media integration into my site. I don't have a facebook page (for example) to somehow link it to. But I'd be delighted if someone wanted to share a SM image on facebook, or tweet it.

Should I include some aspect of SM's links to facilitate that, or do I myself have to have an account for that to work?

As I understand it, the "Show Sharing Options" option in the gallery settings allows people to facebook/google+/tweet/email your photos using their own account. You don't need to set anything up for this, just turn that option on and people can use it if they like.

The social icons element that you can add to your page provides links to YOUR social accounts, as configured in your profile. So if you don't use social media, just don't add those icons.

I've been experimenting with this and am still a bit confused. Consider the basic "share" button on the bottom.

When I'm logged into SM (and I am not logged in nor do I have an account on Twitter or Facebook), the share button offers me a bunch of options including Share to Facebook, Tweet, Email, etc. I click them, I am shown a page clearly aimed at me logging in (to that service) and doing so. No problem, makes sense.

So as a visitor I looked, and the only one present is "Email". I tried it (as a visitor), and I can email.
Small Rant: So Smugmug lets anonymous users use their server to send email, but won't let them leave comments?

Anyway, why are the tweet and facebook (etc) options not there for a visitor? And yes, that gallery has all the share options enabled.

I'm not sure but you could try this:

Click on your account name top tight
Click on the 'Discovery' icon in the list on the left
Select 'Social' from the menu that appears
Turn on 'Show Google+, Facebook and tweet links'

    It might be that

That does appear to be it. I had the Gallery setting under social turned on, I didn't realize there was a (overriding apparently) top level setting for it. Thank you.

Frankly I wish that the owner's view was a bit more consistent with the visitor's view (or a quick way to switch back and forth). When testing things in preview you think you have them working, only to discover later they don't for visitors. A "Visitor preview" button perhaps?

I still can't figure this out. When I'm logged out, the only option I have to share is via email. I have my account settings set to ON to show Facebook, Google+, etc. I also cannot get any photo info to show up when I'm logged out. All I get is a blank box that says INFO at the top. And one more gripe - why when I'm logged out am I seeing the tool wrench? It's dead and doesn't do anything, but it's annoying and will be to visitors as well.

As for seeing your logged out and logged in views - I'm lucky to have 2 monitors and I run 2 browsers - main one runs Safari and is logged in and my auxiliary one runs Chrome and is logged out. Helps immensely!

    Thanks,
