NYC Sunset

So, there I was, working at my desk, minding my own business, when I looked out the window and saw this on the horizon. I ran as fast as I could and grabbed my 20D, which fortunately had my 100-400L telephoto on it, jumped out onto the deck and got this shot. This is from over 30 miles away.

The hurry was that I know from experience that this light reflection lasts for no longer than a minute. I'm pretty excited about this shot, because it's the best sunset reflection I've seen in the two years I've lived here in NY.

Then to top it off, I happen to look up, and there's a great 1/2 moon! I just shot it hand-held, and it came out fine.

So it turned out to be a spontaneous two-fer. :super
Pardon my enthusiam. I just had to share. :1drink

that first one is frickin cool and the town in the foreground tops it off, that is some seriously creative stuff. the picture of the moon is really nice for being shot hend held, good job, keep it up.

The first shot looks like a setting for an electrical train, or other toy village, don't you think?

Yes, the moon is very good.

But the first one is a terrific get!

And your view isn't bad either.

Wow, thanks for the compliment. But I think it was more of a lucky mad dash-and-grab than any creativity of my part. But I'll take lucky any day. 1drink.gif

Thanks, Ginger. Yeah, it really does look like a little toy train village. Laughing.gif! It's a small housing development as far as I know. Oddly enough, I'm not even sure where it is. And yes, we're lucky to have found this place. The views are a real killer.

    Thanks!

I tried a slightly different approach to the post processing here. The crop is a bit tighter, and I've cranked up the shadow detail a bit so that the village is more visible. I like that you can now discern the rock ledge on the mountain. I'm not sure why the sky took on a greenish cast though. There's also some high ISO noise in the sky that I don't like. Any other processing ideas would be more than welcome.
