Not even an offering of strawberry fruit spread could bring the wasps to the back landing so I worked on manual focus with the extension tubes.

This one I'm not so sure about...

    Good ones- focus looks good.
Small pieces of raw fish make good wasp bait.

Perfect! Today's my weekly sushi pickup from Whole Payche--er Foods.

And thanks for the comments...was thinking the second shot looked overprocessed or too granular...something...

Out of curiosity, why raw fish?

Adult wasps will eat sweet food for themselves but they are actually after proteinaceous foods to feed their larvae. So they don't actually eat fish but they cut it up into manageable balls and carry it back to the nest.

    Very interesting.

FYI I did try the fish. It took a while for the wasps to make an appearance so I don't have any shots, but one did show so I'm going to try again today if I have time.

Unfortunately some other, much, much larger wasp-looking insects made an appearance...which may prevent photographing; I'm not sure what they are and how aggressive they would be.

Question: Have you heard about the Oddities of Life tumblr?
