In 1975 there were around 250,000 lions in Africa. Today their number is between 25,000 to 30,000.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

From the look on that first guys face, I'd say it only takes one to ruin your day!:D I love photo's of African animals. One of my brother's, his son and daughter in law spent three weeks there on a photography safari. God I'm jelious! They brought back about 15,000 frames and absolutely beautiful. haven't see a photo of a wart hog I like yet though. I doubt I'll ever make it. not counting travel and rented lens, it cost $650 a day per person. If I had it, I would spend it. Africa is the one place I've always wanted to go to that I doubt I'll ever make at this point in my life. Here's a link to my nephew's ssite with a very few of the photo's.

Now I'll go look at your's some more!

Thanks Don. Your brother's pictures are outstanding. I really liked his B&W conversions. I too always wanted to go to Africa. I took me only 65 years to save the $ but I have managed to visit Africa three times so far.

Wart hogs are not easy subjects. This is the best that I have managed so far.

Superb photos on an awesome subject.

I also dream of going to Kenya for a month, hope to get there in the next 20 years. ^_^

In the meantime, the closest i can get to Lions (Asiatic subspecies) is behind the glass:

Thanks Pam and I'm glad I was able to visit Africa when I did. I hope my grandkids will have the same viewing opportunities I had.

They are so beautiful! It is funny that yesterday was national lion day because I just read an article about a Chinese zoo that was actually using a dog in disguise of a lion and are now in big trouble about it. Sometimes you just gotta wonder what people are thinking...

People are often more amazing than animals. Unfortunately its usual for the wrong reason.

Gotta ask, what equipment did you use? There's some Africa photo's on a hunting site I visit that I really like but were taken with much lesser equipment than my nephew use's. The guy is from South Africa and used an EOS 20D and a 70-300 Sigma lens! Might not get the great photo's with it but at least photo's that are very nice without breaking the bank to do it. When I read what the guy used I though, the Brownie of digital! Not really but lets face it, a d20 and a Sigma 70-300 is not an EOS 1DX with a 600 prime Canon.
