IMHO, it would be helpful if folk could RTFM before starting new threads.
There's plenty of advice already here on Dgrin, on SM's various help pages and even on users' own sites, I don't understand why folk don't look through it before starting a new thread asking for advice about something that's been covered adequately elsewhere already.
There is a search box... upper-right... with a Sherlock-Holmes-stylee icon next to it...
And thus it came to pass that SM didst open the Gates of Migration again, and the number of repeat support requests didst multiply and spreadeth across the face of the Forum as a great flood that couldst not be tamed.
The prophet took up his stone tablet and pondered the letters there engraved. Taking up his tools he did strike out the letters "RTFM" and replace them with "DILLIGAFF?". Exhausted by his labours he rested, content in the knowledge that he'd tried his best.
Amidst the tumult of the deluge a clear voice could be heard, proclaiming "No one wants to spend EVEN MORE hours sifting through EVEN MORE thousands of posts....."
Just to add to BG's point, we are updating help pages as quickly as we can with each update/fix/release happens. The help pages are a great place to get your information from.

Perhaps it's time for multiple threads on the same issue to be merged, it would help to stop the burying of genuinely-new issues for which there's no existing help or advice, or which are taking a long time to fix, or which are justifiably "up for discussion" while a consensus is being found.
I think it would also really help if those who notice duplicate threads, immediately close the new one and refer to the older one (if it's really a duplicate), or if it' solved in one, do something similar. That's quite a task for the forum managers, but I think it could help. The [solved] and [fixed] tags are already helping, I think, this would just be another step further
Obviously we still need a better tracker, but in the mean time, I think it would stem cases where there are quite literally 7 threads on the exact same issue. (I track them myself for features that I'm working on, and I know one of them has 7 )

With the amount of activity in the forums right now it's often hard for someone who is not involved in the conversation to see the duplicates.
if folks notice a duplication of threads it would be helpful to let the moderators know by noting the threads in a post on the Place Requests to Moderators Here. We can combine threads as needed.
One of the biggest problems is a thread getting "off track" and discussing other things. So try to keep on tract
and if it is something relevant please create a new thread for its discussion. The moderators can even move the
"another topic" posts to the new thread. Oh, and try to make the thread title specific to the problem.
Fascinating! (sorry - I just wanted to say that word Hey Guys - The Updated Bug List is now LIVE and stuck where all can easily find it. They did it!!!!!

And the prophet agreed.

NEW Customization help pages.
And, we are also sending regular updates via our blog
e.g. http://news.smugmug.com/2013/08/08/release-notes-fixes-and-more/
Traditionally, that has always been where this information is curated, so please don't overlook it as well.
I hope that helps.
