Canon flash question

I have a 420EX and am thinking about getting the ST-E2. The question is will it work for off camera flash? In the description of the ST-E2 it says it's dedicated 550EX and in the instructions for the 420 the ST-E2 will control it. Or are there 2 different models?

    YES! The 420EX can be used as a slave with the ST-E2.
