Lightbox from multi-image vs. gallery

Is a lightbox not a lightbox? Or is there a setting I'm missing.
I put a multiple photo box on a page (not a gallery, just a page), linked it to a gallery, and it displayed. I then click on a resulting image, and it opens in a lightbox.
The lightbox has the X in the upper right, but no icons on the bottom where it usually has those for comments, size, info, etc.
Is that the intended behavior?
Is there a setting to turn them on and off, or are they simply not available from here?
Impromptu collections like this do work otherwise, for example if you go to a keyword display (e.g. directly from the keyword cloud) and click on an image, the lightbox has the icons at the bottom. But if you use the same keyword as the selection criteria in a multi-image box, no icons. So it's something about this box, but I can't see a setting relative to what happens when you open a lightbox.
PS. Yes, I see the setting to tell it to open a lightbox on click, but I don't see anything about that lightbox.
