Slideshow "filmstrip" - I miss it, from the perspective of the viewer

I am feeling nostalgic for the legacy version of the gallery slideshow, which contained a list of thumbnails in a horizontal list (filmstrip style). This was useful to me as a viewer, rather than a photographer. I have multiple friends with smugmug accounts, and when they share their photos, I often choose to view the gallery in slideshow mode. This gives me the best of both worlds from a navigation perspective: 1) I get the photo and its caption in a large size, and 2) using the thumbnails I can skip past photos that look less interesting to me.
In order to do this in new Smugmug from the Smugmug Gallery style, I have to click a thumbnail to see it in the larger preview window, then click the photo to get the lightbox if I want to see a larger version. Then I have to close the lightbox, click the next thumbnail I want to view, and repeat.

That filmstrip was very nice if you want to navigate fast in lightbox/slideshow mode.
