Allow a "Recent Galleries" block as well as the "Recent Photos" block

A lot of people have asked this for years, but for some reason I hear it never made it to the New Smug. A "Recent Galleries" block would be much more useful than "Recent Photos" for many of us. Many galleries have too many similar photos to be of interest as a "recent" display.

You want to display a list of recently updated galleries? This does exist in customize > customize site > navigation > galleries > selectfrom> recent galleries.

The bad thing about this currently is that even if you only change some settings for the gallery it might appear be on top of the list. Would be nice if it only appears on recent galleries if newly created or new photos were added to that gallery.

Ok, I haven't migrated yet, and I thought from what others were saying, that feature didn't exist. Thank you for correcting me if I was wrong. It sounds like it's a little hard to find, so perhaps that's why others didn't see it. As to the issue you mention-- Yes, that reminds me exactly of the bug that has been happening for the past couple years on the Legacy site, and which SmugMug never got around to fixing! The "Recent Photos" block on Legacy kept displaying photos that were simply cropped, or moved, or had lighting effects done on them! It was definitely a bug, as it was not expected behavior and also was not the case when "Recent Photos" was implemented. So you're saying a similar bug affects Recent Galleries as well. How about Recent Photos in the New Smug? Does it keep showing photos that have been edited, even though they were uploaded a long time ago?

I put the keyword " _all_pictures" in every photo I want to appear and link it to the Recent Button in my Menu.
I'm not to happy about the 1000 limit though.

Seem to be fixed... i cropped an older photo and that one does not yet appear on recent photos. I wish the same could be said from recent galleries. With the current behaviour working on a site design might affect the recent galleries list. That's why i replaced it with a gallery block using "Galleries i choose..."

+1 - Need to have a way to suppress galleries that were merely modified from showing in Recent Galleries. It's a fabulous feature, it just needs to be user-controllable.

I think adding a Gallery Date would solve this. It's in the feature request forum

My Recent Galleries Menu item shows my Other Gallery, and my Professional Gallery. Those two galleries have things in them that are used for "services to my site" that other things use. While these are not Private, pass-word protected, or unlisted, there is nothing the public can't see. I just don't want them showing in the Recent Galleries. Hmmmm....maybe I just answered myself....if I make them unlisted or private, will Recent Galleries choose and display them? Here is a maybe issue...if I use a photo in Other as my image in Contact or About Me, will making Other private or unlisted still let those two things still work? Guess I should go test that and report back.

I agree that the ONLY thing selected by Recent for the public is new galleries and galleries that have new images in them. Now sure how the Date thing helps this. Would I have to keep changing the date periodically?

Make them unlisted with embeddable links on. No one will see unlisted anything browsing
your site. Only you logged in. If they had a direct link to an unlisted gallery they could see in.
Private won't link to anything.
