When converting a legacy SM account to the New SM are external links to photos and galleries preserved?

    Yes.

I link to photos on my smug site from my blog all of the time. The old links continued to work when I moved to the new smug. You can see that in my blog if you look at entries prior to July 30th (which is the date that I unveiled.

The answer is both yes and no unfortunately. Links to photos appear to always work because smumug use the photo ID at the end of the URL to identify the photo.

Galleries are unfortunately a bit different. In legacy SM it didn't matter if the gallery name started with a lower or upper case letter - it would always work e.g. if you typed in photos.miseast.org/afghanistan you would get to photos.miseast.org/Afghanistan which was perfect. Now it DOES matter so any existing links out there in the world to photos.miseast.org/afghanistan will no longer work and you will instead be redirected to a 404 page. There is discussion within SmugMug as to whether or not this can be fixed but at the moment it is looking unlikely.
