Sorry no critique from me. For a flatlander like me these are almost heartachingly beautiful.

Awesome. Love the color in number 2, and the long exposure effect on the clouds. For both of these did you consider cropping out some of the nearest foreground? Unless you had some pre-determined ratio you were shooting for, I just want to get a little closer to the action. I'd also be tempted to burn the shadows a little bit in the first one, maybe just in the sky a tiny bit, and little bit in the foreground to emphasize the plant shadows a tiny bit as well? Actually, if the first bush wasn't dead center on the second one, I'd suggest a portrait crop on that one around the lightning, if you wanted to keep all the foreground.
Yeah, if you recognize the avatar, new user name.

superduckz, Stumblebum, thanks very much for the kind comments!

kolibri, I'm never wedded to a particular ratio. I'll reconsider the crops and give some thought to your other suggestions. I framed the second shot generously in the hope of getting a lot of lightning in the sky, which never happened. I'm relieved that the color in the second one seems okay, as I found it very difficult to make the colors credible when I processed it.

Beautiful shots! We had the privilege of visiting Petrified Forest, but unfortunately due to drive time, had to be there in the middle of the day.... so most of my shots are quite bright.

jsrucci, joel, thank you very much. The middle of the day certainly isn't the time to be there. For whatever it's worth, this was my fourth photographic outing there and the first to produce much in the way of photographs I liked.

Aaron, John, thank you both for the comments. If I've communicated anything of what it was like to be there, I'm happy.

Gosh. No critiques from me. I love content and the properly saturated colors - nature that looks natural - excellent!

    Great photos.

I think #2 would be a lot stronger in a pano ratio crop taking a bit off the top and the bottom. Even with the great light show, my eye is drawn to the rut in the dirt on the lower left.

Interesting how folks perceive things differently. I looked at that photo 10 times and never noticed the rut before. :giggle

Right, but once you see it that rut can't be unseen! ne_nau.gif

When I crop that out on my screen as a pano, the resulting image is fantastic.

Awais, joe-bob, Mitchell, Joel, Randy, thank you very much for commenting. I'd noticed the rut and thought I liked it. I'm now convinced it shouldn't be there. That's what constructive criticism can do.

Outstanding! I've been there once, but the light was not even close to as good as you captured.

My criticism is that you should have included a few more shots from that very fine gallery of your visit to the park!
