[Invalid] HTML in Profile broken?

Did HTML in profile blocks just break?

All my HTML is still present in the profile text field but all of a sudden it's not being honored by the site. Links not working, formatting gone, etc.

Is this a temporary glitch or has it been disabled altogether?

Seeing it on several sites I'm curating and on all browsers.

    Noticed now that all html is being stripped from the profile text field.

    Html had been working fine in the profile (Bio) up until a couple of days ago.

    Should I assume that this functionality has now been deprecated? Or, is this a temporary glitch? Was using html to put intra-site links in my profile.

    Are you asking about a legacy Smugmug site or a new Smugmug site? If a legacy site, is your HTML surrounded by <html> and </html>?

    Hi John, thanks for the reply.

    Definitely the new Smug. HTML was working as it always has in a bio box (called profile now, apparently) until just a few days ago. All <html> tags were intact. Now, all HTML is stripped from the profile, leaving just plaintext.

    Was using the profile to show the standard small photo along with some text and links on my homepage (you can see this on my legacy site, and it's the same as what I heretofore successfully used on my unveiled new site.) After HTML crashed, I was able to replicate the look and functionality of the profile using a photo block and a text block, so no problem, but it just seems odd that all of a sudden HTML would be dis-allowed in the profile (if indeed it has been).

    Really just looking to verify that HTML in profiles has been deprecated in the new Smug (or that it's just a technical glitch).

    Thanks as always, John, for all you contribute.

    Heya Dave,

    Can you send me a link to the specific page that had the HTML Profile block, as well as the HTML that was in the block?

    Thanks!

    Hi Michael, thanks for checking in.

    I already replaced the profile on my homepage with a photo & text box combo to replicate the profile (works great), but to show you what's up I have temporarily put the profile back in above the other content and put the HTML back in.

    The HTML was again stripped from the profile.

    The profile is on my homepage, so www.djdigitaldave.net. Bear in mind I'm still unveiled.

    The HTML code was:
    <html>
    <div id="bioBody">
    The <a href="http://www.djdigitaldave.net/galleries">galleries</a> on this site contain photos representing various elements of Dave's photography, with a special emphasis on his extensive travels in the <a href="http://www.djdigitaldave.net/China"> People's Republic of China</a>. Be sure to check out Dave's <a href="http://blog.djdigitaldave.net">BLOG</a> for his musings on China and photography, among lots of other things. Also don't miss the really cool <a href="http://www.djdigitaldave.net/gallery/6392815_Ar3RU">MAP</a> page where you can view dozens of selected geo-tagged photos in their geographical context on an interactive satellite map. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your visit!<br><br>
    </div>
    <div id="pleaseEnjoy">
    Please enjoy some images from Dave's <a href="http://www.djdigitaldave.net/China">People's Republic of China galleries</a> in the slideshow below.
    </div>
    </html>

    The above shows up in the profile as just plaintext.

    I'm experiencing the same thing on other sites I'm maintaining for friends, so let me know if you need additional links to any of those sites.

    Thanks again for following up on this, Michael.

    Thanks Dave! Confirmed HTML isn't being rendered. Asking to see if this was intentional, but moving to the bug forum for now.

    Heya DJ,

    Just to follow up, this actually is the desired behavior. No HTML is allowed in this section, but similar to what happens in comments, we will convert any text that looks like http://www.somelink.com into a clickable link. Any other HTML put in there will be stripped.

    Thanks!

    Michael

    Well, that's a particularly silly restriction. What if we want to apply formatting to our text? Or even just provide links with link text (so they don't always have to be gigantic complete http://www... links)?

    Can we look forward to our other customised content being quietly deleted in the future when SmugMug decides they don't like it any more?

    For example, look at my bio block, the second one:

    http://www.sherlockphotography.org/Customisations/Expand-your-Profile-block

    It's got a nice tidy link to an off-site domain, and a mailto link to my email address, both of which seem to be impossible in the new restricted bio boxes. I created mine by turning my bio box into an HTML box, which is both tedious and fragile.

    As far as I know, it is just this and comments. Sorry Lamah.

    Well, looks like I've got a new tutorial to add to my customisations page, at least.

    Here we go, it's not particularly easy, or maintainable, but here's a tutorial on how to convert your Profile block into an HTML block to allow you to enter whatever HTML code you like into it:

    Michael, thanks for replying back with the verdict on this. Now we can move forward knowing what the limitations are. As always, appreciate your following up.

    Lamah, thanks for your input and your awesome tutorial. What I did was essentially replicate the look and (former) functionality of the Profile block by making a page with a Photo block, a Title block, and an HTML/CSS block, then arranging them accordingly. But your approach allows for all the Profile components to carry over together into the single new HTML/CSS block. Great workaround!
