Please would someone tell me in the new SM smart galleries, how do I stop images showing the original gallery that the image was collected from?

You would need to add the appropriate CSS to hide that link. If you post a link to a representative gallery that has that link, people are more likely to take a link and offer you what CSS could work. Also, you will need to specify whether you're trying to hide that particular link in one gallery, in a folder of galleries or everywhere in your site.

Hi John and thanks for the reply.

In legacy SM, we had the option in the setup to refer to the original gallery or not, which I assume from your answer now needs to be coded?

I populate smart galleries from one main gallery, which is not linked to from the homepage. I would have preferred for visitors not to be routed to this gallery and as such, for the smart gallery to appear to be a full galleries.

Can you point me somewhere to get the code for this?

Please read my previous post. I asked you for a link and I asked you a question.

I also want the css code to remove the link back to the original gallery. I submitted a help ticket on this to SmugMug and they said that in new SmugMug it was not an option to remove those links back to the original gallery. I sure hope they will change that sometime in the near future. Obviously we're using smart galleries because we don't want to show all the photos in the original gallery.

In another thread someone else said he would investigate as to whether it could be removed via CSS, but I never heard back from him. My temporary solution is to use a gallery style that does not include those links (not optimal). I also password protect the folder that contains the original gallery. However, right now that is not working because something is broken that won't allow password protected photos to show up in Smart Galleries or as Collected photos in a public gallery.

I'm still in the Legacy SmugMug, and I use something similar to what you're talking about, although not on my Homepage and not so extensively. However, in Legacy I never found this capability in settings or set-up or whatever. What I did is this: I set the Original Gallery to "Unlisted", and didn't provide links to it anywhere. So that gallery was, for all intents & purposes, for "my eyes only". Now I made another gallery. That new one was set to "Public". I collected photos from other galleries & put them there, & the photos are/were then visible to all. However, only the photos from "Public" galleries showed any link-back to my guests. These links say "See in Original Gallery". However, I myself (when logged in) can always see the "For your eyes only: See photo in Original Gallery" link under the collected photo. Or if the Original Gallery of the Collected Photo is set to "Public", then it doesn't say "For your eyes only"; it just says "See in Original Gallery". If I'm logged out, I see no links unless the original is from a Public Gallery. I'm guessing if you're in an "Unveiled" New Site, you have to be logged in to see it, so you'll always see those links that you don't want your public to see. Didn't I read that there's a way to see it logged out on another browser or something? Idk... maybe you've already unveiled. Btw, the above all worked the same in Legacy even if the Smart Gallery was populated by a keyword or whatever... I think... eeek, or would photos from an Unlisted Gallery simply not show up at all? Anyway, I'm still not helping you on the New Smug, unless settings are the same... [ETA: I see you've unveiled. Well, crap. I sure hope this same capability is available in New Smug. Can you tell me: Can you not now set your original galleries to "Unlisted"? Or is it that in New Smug, collected photos from "Unlisted" galleries still show the back-link to the public?] [2nd ETA: Here's a gallery from my Legacy Smug that's almost all Collected Photos, & a couple non-virtual photos. http://www.winsomeworks.com/Travel/Pennsylvania/Pennsylvania-Winter/25952752_X5sg34#!i=2228328244&k=PjLXBQF All the photos from Public Galleries show links back to the original gallery. A few are from Unlisted Galleries, so only I can see the links, & those links say "For your eyes only: see in Original Gallery"]

When they fix the problem with Smart Galleries currently not showing unlisted galleries, your solution should work. But right now, we cannot unlist our original galleries, or the photos will not show up at all in our smart galleries. They are working on a fix for this.

    But once that's fixed.....
In my case, I do want the original galleries to be available to family members via a link at the very bottom of my page that will be password protected. But I don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry seeing all those links back to original galleries in the public galleries. Clicking on them will take them to a page that asks for a password and that is annoying and will likely send them off my site. Better to have the link optional. I had that feature in another service I used, and I don't see why Smug wouldn't code it in as a site option.

Oh gosh. OK, I didn't realize those Unlisted ones wouldn't even show up in the New Smug Smart Galleries. That's a real pain. So I'm wondering what happens to such galleries when one hits the "Migrate" button? I.e. What do those Legacy galleries become / how do they populate / etc. when they move to one's New Smug?! Ugh. Every instance like this makes me feel sick about the chore ahead. I have LOTs of galleries like this, for the exact same reason you do! Yes, why did they not simply code it the same way? All this agony...

My understanding is that smart galleries ARE showing images from unlisted galleries, if you've enabled that in the definition of the smart gallery. I thought the current problem is that they aren't showing images from password protected galleries (if you've configured for that).

Yeah, looks like you're right, John, according to this thread (and the fix hasn't happened yet, but at least it sounds like they agree it's a bug) http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=239728 However, I'm still not clear on what New Smug does with the links under the photos in a gallery like that. I.e. Do they behave as they did in Legacy or not? And the OP didn't really specify (I don't think) what kind of Original Galleries he's talking about. He says they're "Not linked from the homepage", but Idk if that means they're Unlisted, Password-Protected, or something else. Methinks New Smug has yet another type of privacy setting, but idk what it is or where I read that.

I just did some testing and photos from unlisted galleries DO show up in Smart Galleries AND the link back to the original gallery is NOT there when you view the photo in a Smart Gallery. Still doesn't quite solve my problem since I want mine password protected - not unlisted - but for now it keeps people from seeing my private galleries.
