Flickr refugee seeking new SmugMug options

I prefer clicking to scrolling especially for reviewing images, because scrolling makes me motion sick. I jumped ship from flickr when it went all-justified all the time, because I truly can't use the new version, and I share images with others who have similar issues.
I'm dismayed by the scroll-happy new layouts in SmugMug, because they're what I was trying to get away from. Without trying to rewrite my own html, I'm looking for a new layout that:
Always shows my photos in their normal proportions--no auto-crops to square thumbnails, thankyouverymuch.
Always shows titles and descriptions--no naked images. I take and post of lot of images that are more about the narrative text, for sharing and demonstrating and teaching, than about the 'pure' image.
Permits moving through a gallery with clicks and images replacing each other rather than scrolling scrolling scrolling. A scrollable ribbon of small thumbnails at the bottom of the screen is acceptable, but the main images should not scroll unless someone specifically clicks to request that.
The home page shows several recent images and smaller clickable images representing different groups of galleries, with titles & descriptions here too, so that they know the image of a bee on a flower will take them to galleries of macro images of nature; the waterfall will take them to landscapes and travel scenes; the fish photo to fish-related images; etc.
And I really really want a gallery view where the images in the gallery can be viewed, several per page, not thumbnail-size, but small enough for 3 to 6 per page, viewed with their captions, to make following a demo easier.
As I review the new SmugMug styles, they remind me all to much of the new flickr--loss of text, photos jammed together without breathing room, and scroll-city. Is there an option out there that I've missed, or a way to take one of these new views and make it closer to what I've described?
