A female garden Orb Spider (or Cross spider) spinner herself a new web between the apple tree and the dwarf conifer in the garden this evening. I have tried to video it too (not particularly successfully though, probably because I was using my macro lens which is slower to focus the the STM lenses).

I like how you can see where she has completed her web and the strand she is working on at the time I took the image.

    You are brave.

I'm still working up the nerve to take a phone shot of the orb weaver on the downstairs back porch.

I know, I know...but for whatever reason they still trigger my 'oh dear God RUN' instinct. Not wasps, just spiders. And not all spiders...just those that are bigger than jumping spiders but smaller than tarantulas. Minus daddy longlegs.

    Yeah...I don't get it either...
