Smoke from the Windy Fire in the Kings Canyon N.P. backcountry created a smokey but interesting sunset on Sunday night. Pulled over on shoulder of US 395 and quickly took this one before losing the light. C&C always welcome.

That's really cool, Steve. Smoke on the horizon always makes the best sunsets. You could really juice up the processing on this if you wanted to.

I think this was worth pulling over for. Are these the Elk fields?

I agree. Specifically, I'd move the white point down to really pull out the highights in the clouds, you have plenty of room in the historgram to stretch it without burning any highlights- I love that you can see the different levels of shadows for each peak individually. Stretching makes the foreground a little brighter as a counterpoint to the orange. That's where I'd stop probably, but you could make it really apocalyptic by drawing down the first 1/5 of the values in curves on a second layer and adding a digital ND filter to keep that effect on the clouds and range.
Yeah, if you recognize the avatar, new user name.

I also think it's a fine shot. I don't know that I'd tinker with the processing much. I always prefer to have things undercooked rather than overcooked.

Hey -- thanks much for kind words and suggestions. I've been playing around with the processing a bit -- haven't come up with anything that doesn't look overboard but still chipping away.
