No featured image but not rotating.

On my homepage and in galleries such as "Travel" the click-through image that represents the folder or gallery never changes and this is getting stale. Clicking "X" to remove the feature photo in gallery settings makes no difference.

I don't want to have to keep setting a different feature photo. How do I get the images to rotate through each gallery and folder so that every visit to the homepage or a folder doesn't show the exact same shots?

    It's a bit rubbish that they have designed staleness into their system.
