altered metadata on resized images

In the IPTC field "DocumentNotes" of all images (except the originals) a funny SM URL is to find, see attachment.

I would like to know what it is meant for (altering of metadata should have a good reason) and if there are more fields on which data is altered/added, we should know off.

These are not your originals, these are display sizes that we had to modify to get to a smaller display size, so yes, this is expected.

Which is what I said. This ULRs are not to find in originals.

Well, I slowly get used to the fact, that its hard to get a straight, informative and honest answer in here.

I asked what the manipulation is for and if we have to expect that other metadata in our images is manipulated as well. I believe I have a right to know, because these images (at display sizes) are what is presented in here and via crawlers to the audience outside SM and not necessarily the originals.
As far I can see, this not the case for images on legacy sites.

There is not need to manipulate embedded metadata - everything what is needed for driving SM's business can be kept in SM's database(s) instead of our images.

I think Michael was very straight forward, he said "These are not your originals..." So, these are their files and they will do whatever they want with them. They need to resize files you originally uploaded in order to give you the website you bought from them. I doubt you want them to display your originals and hsve every visitor of your site to be able to download your original work, do you? Moreover, I'm pretty sure when you singed up the Terms of Services clearly spelled out this aspect.

Whether or not they can use derivatives if your original art to their benefit - is a totally separate issue. No one knows if that data in the EXIF is used to their benefit or to your benefit or it is totally meanengless.
