fullscreen add margins?

When in fullscreen photos go right to the edge - is there a way to add a margin so can keep a bit of background / black frame around it?

I add this in and looks great but I lose the rounded photo corners.

That's because the border radius is being applied to this new, transparent border around the image, so you don't see it any more. However, if you set the border-radius high enough, it will round its way all the way through to the photo and will end up rounding your photo corners for you:
