Golden Gate Bridge under the Blue Moon

I went into the city last week to get some shots of the blue-moon rising over the Golden Gate bridge. As usual, the low fog obscured the moonrise until the moon was already high over the horizon, which didn't please me. Still, I'm not complaining too much. Comments and critiques always welcome.

Incredible! Man you need to let me come with you next time......I need to learn!

Should horizon on very first be lifted just a touch on the right?

Ha, you're too kind, Taz. I'd love to hook up with you on a shoot some time, I think I could learn a thing or two from you as well.

I see what you mean about the first shot. That was taken with the 5DMKIII and pretty sure I used the built-in level for it, so I'm not sure if that's an illusion or what. It could use a bit of "cheating" to the left to make it look straighter. I don't really even like that shot that much. I should have just posted a different one.

I love that shot! Notice the reflection of the bridge cables in the water on the left side! I think horizon is fine, now that I am seeing it on bigger monitor at home!

They are all incredible, pano is awesome too! How did the moon catch fire in #2 and #3?

Yeah, that pano is killer Joel clap.gif
#1 looks fine to me - #2 looks like it dips a little on the right.

I very much like the first and last shots. Fine work! As slow as I am to clone, though, I'd probably get rid of the jet trail in the first. It's an eye magnet.

Kudos, Joel. clap.gif I would imagine that the pano shot would be very marketable. It's that good.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Well, thanks so much again, Taz. I do like the reflection of the cables in that shot, plus the moon reflection is good on that one too.

I guess it's the atmospheric conditions (fog) that caused the fiery colors on the moon -- the same conditions caused all the distortion as well. With the moon so low on the horizon, it has much more atmosphere you're shooting through.

Thank very much, Don. Funny, I did edit that one in PS and removed the jet trail among other things. Then at the last minute I decided I liked the original better for other reasons, and I was too lazy to create another version. Besides, I do kinda like the way the contrail is pointing right at the moon. Still undecided.

No doubt. If this was my home town I'd want to buy one. And I'm one finicky customer when it comes to paying for a print. Really spectacular work and as an amateur something to aspire to someday. clap.gif

Outstanding! Love the first one. I've been wanting to do this site for awhile.... 40 miles for me, and the fog can cause disappointment for sure. Great capture. Exposure?

Man those are some great shots. I love the SanFran area and the Golden Gate bridge is such a beautiful icon to photograph. I've never been able to capture a moon really well, but these photos of her look spectacular. I am envious of your outstanding skills.

Bristlecone, the exposure on the first shot was ISO200, F8, 30s, 35mm focal length on the Canon 5DMKIII.

Very nice set!! For the one with the ship, I would have tried to quickly change the aperture and iso and shutterspeed to get a shot that had the ship non-blurred, and made a composite of the two. But to each their own!
