Displaying gallery names?

Please see image below. This is the design direction I am headed in for my new site.
One problem =====>>>> the gallery names are truncated - I need to change the font size of the gallery name so all of the gallery name displays.
I was provided this code from an earlier thread on this board (which did nothing as far as I can tell):
*******
xxxxxxx.gallery names under sub-cat thumbs, .sm-tiles-grid ul li a p {
font-size: 35%!important;
padding-left: 0!important;
padding-right: 0!important;
color: gold!important;
}
*******
The help desk said this code contained invalid CSS code and that the "!important" would cause problems in other area for the site and I was told to remove it - which I did.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone can tell me if and how my gallery name problem can be solved.
Beware: I am CSS illiterate so if the answer involves CSS please be specific about what code I should use and where it should be placed.
Thanks,
