Picasa users:
Have you gotten Picasa to play nice with your RAW files? I loved it until I started shooting raw and it started having daily hissy fits. Suggestions?
I can confirm that the captions do come over. Here
At first I was worried that the exif had dropped. But, I remember now that this camera does not record exif data. The photos from my KM 5d does come over after processing through Picasa.
So, to answer your questions, yes exif is preserved and captions do come over into Smugmug.
Let me know if there is any other testing you need done.

I've been using Picasa for a year now and have not seen any problems viewing my RAW files from my Canon 10D. Could you explain the issues?
Picasa captions not working for me now
I am a new user to Smugmug, and, discovered that Picasa2 captions were retained when uploaded, and, was pleased, as I am working on a project where I wanted to use Picasa2 standalone in a library setting for searching photos and burning them to CD, and, use Smugmug for the same photo collection online. And, I wanted to avoid having to input the captions twice.
However, I am now unable to get the captions to be visible or available for search when uploaded to Smugmug.
I assume I changed something to cause this, but, cannot determine what that was.

It looks like you have turned off the Caption option in your gallery customization.
Which option are you referring to? The only one I'm familiar with is the one which says, 'use filename if no caption,' which I do have enabled as I have some photos with descriptive filenames and would like to keep enabled if possible; and, which appears to have no effect on Picasa captions being available on the uploaded smugmug photo. Any help much appreciated.
filenames: ? Yes: No: for photos without captions, show the filename instead of nothing?
This was the option I was referring to. It may not be the right one for what you are trying to do. If changing this option does not fix it, I would take this to the SM support section.
Take a look at the help for that option. Point at the ? mark beside filenames in the customization window and it should pop up. That should explain how the captions work better than I can.

It appears that you can. I have been using Picasa for a few weeks with fairly good luck. From what i can tell the exif is intact on my photos.

Doc, what about caption info from Picasa upto SmugMug
And, are there specific steps one must take to preserve exif and captions?
Thanks

I have not been playing with the captions. As for the Exif I do nothing special to retain it and it is showing in SM. So nothing special.
I will check the captions and report back.
