Is there a way to batch change the category of about 40 galleries?

Hi snapsbypoteat,
Are you using the New SmugMug or Legacy?
In the new SmugMug you could use the site ORGANIZER to move folders/galleries/sub galleries to a different location - in bulk.
You can read about this on our help pages:
http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/1210667-organize
If you are using the old/legacy version of your site - please open one of the galleries that you would like to re-assign to a different category - click TOOLS - > Gallery Settings - > on top of the gallery settings page you will find: Changing settings for - select MULTIPLE GALLERIES - now select one by one, which gallery would you like to change - > change the category and click save.
I hope this helps!
Reorganizing folders and galleries is super-easy in the new SmugMug, but there is a humongous gotcha, one which I didn't realize until I'd completely messed up my primary website: When you change the location of files in the SmugMug site, SM no longer redirects the old URL to the new one.
What this means is that anyone clicking a link in a blog will get a Page Not Found.
We use SmugMug as the photo site for a large and active church, and every time we post photos, we put a link to the SM gallery on our blog. Since I happily streamlined our navigation when I migrated to the new SM, I soon learned that EVERY SINGLE LINK in 200+ blogs is broken.
In Legacy, I could move a gallery and the old URL would still get the user to the gallery. I had no idea this would happen.
I'm hopeful they're working on a fix, but just wanted to alert you - if you have links "in the wild", they will break if you reorganize.
