Many have complained about this.
With the new log in page you have to type in your email and password every time you log in.

Cheers,

    Dennis,

This is edge cases, based on your workflow before you are logged out. It takes alot of research and working with individual users to identify. The active bug list needs to be kept clean and not get cluttered. Therefore, I will not be adding this, and will instead trouble shoot on a case by case basis.

The real problem is my browser, FF, does not recognize the password page as a password page.
Otherwise I'd get a pop up asking to save the log in info.
This all started when Smug switched to the new password page. So it's a design screw up and
    needs to be fixed.

    I'll second that.
A properly-functioning log-in page that works for all is a pretty fundamental requirement, and it's making SM look foolish, but not as foolish as their reluctance to deal with its shortcomings.

I have to admit I am getting tired of having to re-log in all the time. Every time I close Firefox, and then reopen it I am logged out.

I'm using Safari, leave my site open in a browser tab, have done nothing more interesting than look at my site, and yet every single time I want to peek at my account, i have to log in. Is the "remember me" button just for show? This is clearly a bug.

    Logged out today, using FireFox
I found I was logged out again today. I use FireFox with Vista. I unfortunately don't know what I did on my site the last time I was on it. I often leave my site and go elsewhere on the web using the same browser (FireFox). I usually close down any open browsers at night, and this time I know for certain that I completely closed FF before opening it today to go to my site. I'm not sure how often this has happened (being logged out), but it's just sometimes, not every time. I always have "keep me logged in" checked.

    Nope, not fixed.

It will not be fixed until a browser recognizes the log in page as a password page.

It's interesting that if I type an incorrect password Firefox asks me if I want to save the new password.

This has been working better for me lately. I found that in Firefox I have a plugin called Adblock Plus.
If you have this, right click on the page and allow pop ups on this site.

Safari. Log into SM with the "Remember" checked. Close the tab without logging out of SM. Enter the "Private Browsing" function of Safari. Do stuff. Exit the Private function. Do more stuff - or not. Turn off computer. Go back to Smugmug page following that previous shutdown and will have to re-log in. The Private Browsing Safari function on/off does something that will kill the cookie's state forcing a re-log. I have finally figured this thing out, at least on my end.

I still get logged out most of the time in FF (even though I always have "keep me logged in" checked), but can't nail down any of the common denominators with the log-outs. I think that one instance in which I can "count on" getting logged out is if I've left SmugMug open for awhile, but haven't been doing anything on it. So, for instance: I've logged in earlier, maybe did stuff on SmugMug, then minimized the page or just left it open. Next time I go back to SmugMug, whether it's a half hour or a couple hours, I'm no longer logged in. Also, I have to then type in all of my info. It's not getting remembered by FF.

Thanks for the great info David! I will try to recreate this with your description.

Make sure its a hard shut down. The next day's date when turning back on might have something to do with a cookie losing its mind too. I usually shut it down early AM and am back on late the same day, so it might not always be the case*. Hope this helps and is repeatable. I use an older copy of Safari, for what its worth.

    * occasionally, SM keeps me logged in for a week or more. ne_nau.gifSo YMMV.
