Gallery default image size - how to increase?

Hello,
I'm using smugmug gallery style for one of my galleries and want the pictures to be displayed at 1280px width whenever possible. I know it will depend on the resolution of the screen. However, in the recent past my images were displayed in 1280 px width on a full hd screen without and issues. Then, I can't recall when exactly, the website can't display anything larger than 1024 unless you click on the image.
Most people don't, that's why I'm interested in the possibility to return this feature.
I think on a 2500px wide screen the images are 1280px. I can also manage to make them 1280 with journal style gallery. But I want the same with smugmug gallery, like it used to be. Tried with both Chrome and Firefox.
