I got scared of Pinterest icons, because I was told that once the photo goes to Pinterest, anyone can do whatever they want with it... print it out, etc. (basically all SmugMug protections are lost). I haven't gone to PInterest & ascertained this, but I've heard it from quite a few sources. More research needed.

Once you post a photo on the internet anyone in the world can do whatever they want with it. None of SM's protections do anything to stop that, other than watermarking, which wouldn't be lost on Pinterest or anywhere else. Right click protection and things like that can be evaded in seconds. Just don't allow larger viewing sizes than you are comfortable with everyone on Earth copying and printing.

Adam is 100% correct. But we still have an active request for a Pinterest content block that I will keep you updated on.

    Yes Adan is right.

Thanks mbonocore, I'll be tracking this post in order to know if Pinterest content block is developed.

Yeah, I'd still be in support of this as an option as well, along with Tumblr, StumbleUpon, etc. I do have some stuff that's gone to Pinterest through FineArtAmerica, & I mainly just allow stuff there that I'm not quite so picky about, just for the exposure. Like some puppy snapshots, etc.! There's a place for it; I just try not to put my best, full-res, un-watermarked stuff there.

I'm slowly coming round to pinterest. (http://www.pinterest.com/paulbrock/)

If the photo hosting site supports it, like flickr does (heavily), then all pins and repins are attributed to the source. In fact, proper social media support means its LESS likely for people to manually download and upload to other services, breaking the 'custody chain'.

e.g. this is a photo I repinned from someone else, who wasn't the photographer. It clearly includes a link back to the original on flickr.

With that, I give my support to pinterest inclusion (and wider social media support generally; its an ever changing landscape and Smugmug needs to be more pro-active in adding support for other services, not waiting 2 years after they become popular)

This will of course be optional.

Do you know if there is some progress about this or letting us to use jscript?

I kind of rigged up a small work around to deal with pinterest security holes. Still testing it out. but basically, I made a gallery with only low resolution images that are watermarked. Kept the gallery unlisted. Then used the image URL to pin to that image and then changed the source(on pinterest) to my home page. The behavior on pinterest is that rather than treating it like an image it's treating it like a link to the home page but displaying the watermarked image of choice. Hope this helps anyone. It's a little quirky.

An alternate version of this is create a smart gallery where you can keyword "Pinterest" or whatever and then have the smart gallery use watermarks and set the max viewing size to small (or your choice)

Hi - I recently worked with a photographer that uses pinterest a lot as well. Yes, this would be a nice feature.
I coach her to simply go to her portfolio and do a 'share - get a link'. For there, she can do a copy of the small image URL and paste the URL (Add a pin from the web).
it works - of course, the share options in the gallery need to be on. Watermarking and captions are subject to the photographer.
She can also have others do this option as well.
Questions - let me know - jerry

Hello?? Why isn't anyone answering if there's any news about Pin it button?? Why is the sharing so restricted? Why won't you give the photographer a chance to choose if he wants to use sharing on Pinterest or not? It should be optional! What about Javascript, if not Pinterest? Can anyone at least answer to know where we stand? Please?

    Pinterest
Please add the ability to add the html or meta tags to include pinning by Pinterest! This opens a huge possible revenue stream. Thanks, Vivian

It's a request we get quite often. For the time being, all I can suggest is adding your opinion to our Feedback page, so it helps it gain traction :-)

I use Chrome for browsing, and there's an extension for Pinterest https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pin-it-button/gpdjojdkbbmdfjfahjcgigfpmkopogic

It does work, but the method is to right click on your image and select 'pin it'. It works fine. Only problem is that with right-click protection set, as I do, I can't get the option to pin it! Why not make it so that the owner of the smug site is not included in the restriction, and can right click their own images?

i just joined pinterest and added the extension to my browser..all i need to do is hover over the image and the PIN IT button pops up...but that won't help if others want to pin something and they are not using the plug in....and i need to verify my URL but that doesn't seem to be possible...**sigh**

Button, button, where's our button? I would like to see this added to the social media icons. Smugmug is falling way the hell behind in this. Only THREE social media buttons? Really? It's time to get up to speed. Pinterest, Reddit, etc., are just a few new ones that would add to our users' experience.
